Abstract

Observation and documentation of educational processes are central instruments of professional pedagogical action in early childhood education. The development and dissemination of digital media opens up new perspectives for educational documentation in day care centres. The following article describes the increasing mediatisation of educational documentation. In this context, the digitalisation of documentation is interpreted as the (so far) highest stage of a progressive mediatisation process. This process affects the daily experience (of the children) and the pedagogical actions of the educational professionals. It is shown that in the mediatisation process not only the communication channel changes, but also the contents of the documentation and the roles of the partners involved in the educational process (child, parents, pedagogical professionals) change, so that new possibilities of participation arise for children and parents. The co-constructions that are central to the educational process of children can experience new impulses and the understanding of children's educational processes can be deepened and differentiated.
