Abstract

In our contribution, we combine sign-theoretical and body-phenomenological perspectives to explore aesthetic-media practices of young people. The aim is to examine the precariousness of the self in the confrontation with ascriptions of the self and the other within the framework of discriminatory orders. The medium forms the third, in which the location-boundness of experience and the identificatory external perspective are intertwined without coming into congruence. We demonstrate this by means of three spatial relationships, each of which incorporates the medial in a specific way. For the question of the represented identification event, these are topographical and topological spatial relations. We will explain the lifeworldly significance of these identification processes on the basis of the socio-spatial aspect, which also includes the educational dimension, which in the material we are examining takes its starting point in the witnessing of racism.
