Abstract

The use of digital media in the classroom and the opening of virtual learning spaces by teachers still needs to be developed in Germany. Based on a definition of virtual learning spaces, conditional and successful factors for the opening of these spaces are analysed in relation to the teacher personality and school technical infrastructure in a mixed-methods approach. Among other things, it is shown that student-centred teaching attitudes are related to the use of digital media and virtual spaces. It becomes clear that, in addition to professionalisation, teachers should also receive training on the didactically meaningful use of digital media in the classroom in order to promote the use of digital media and the opening of virtual learning spaces.
