Abstract

The article shows that cultural theoretical approaches to media socialisation underestimate the relevance of different social situations. Using the example of the topic 'Digital Divide', research findings are reported and classified against the background of the field of tension between social disadvantage and social distinction. The concluding part develops an understanding of milieu-sensitive media literacy education, which considers the media practice of the subjects in connection with existing (internal and external) resources for coping with life.
