Abstract
The authors discuss the advantages and disadvantages of standardising e-learning formats. Similar to the standard Rich Text for data exchange of text files, learning objects can be stored as standardised, reusable objects and used in a variety of ways. One possibility is to store them in central pools in universities, where they are integrated into different platforms. The authors question whether, because of the focus on efficiency and atomisation of information, media-didactic considerations are neglected and the concept of knowledge is reduced to retrievable information. In an excursus, they illustrate the problem using the example of medical students, who have a good knowledge of facts but often have difficulties in applying it. In this context, they present the clinic simulation "Prometheus", which is intended to guide students to expertise because of its action orientation.
