Abstract
A theoretical consolidation process is currently taking place in media education. It follows the development of the media and is an expression of the fact that media education no longer has to justify its existence, but is recognised as a scientific discipline and ergo has to strive for theoretical tools to cope with its empirical as well as practical tasks. In doing so, it refers to the scientific discourse on media. This discourse, which in educational science is only beginning, in the other social sciences already more intensively and most intensively in communication science, is trying to keep pace with the still rapid media development towards the complete omnipresence and omnipotence of the media.
