Abstract

This article discusses the possibilities and limits of realising virtual conferences in the context of higher education didactics. To this end, this chapter first introduces the construct "virtual conference" and attempts to classify it in the field of virtual teaching-learning forms (cf. e.g. Euler 2001 a/b; Euler/Wilbers 2002, Rosenberg 2001). Within the framework of this introduction, advantages and disadvantages of virtual conferences are pointed out. The second section describes the conception, preparation and joint implementation of a concrete virtual conference on the topic of "e-learning in vocational education and training" at three university locations. Finally, the potential of such an instrument for university teaching is discussed and rounded off with an initial conclusion.
