Abstract

Digital media have properties that allow learners to discover new ways of accessing the world. This is a bold claim. We will try to substantiate it and give it shape. We will do this using examples from the field of computer art - using technical images. We start with Vilém Flusser (1999), who points out that technical images are to be understood differently from traditional ones. We would like to generalise this understanding of technical images to the special character of many computer things. This leads us to suggestions for the design of digital media for learning environments, especially their characteristic of interactivity. We end with an example of the practical implementation of a constructivist-based learning environment from our research project COMPART: A SPACE FOR COMPUTER ART. Finally, we ask about the suitability of Flusser's terms in relation to this project.
