Abstract
The production of knowledge is becoming faster and faster, and the technical possibilities of ICT to multiply, disseminate and make information accessible are constantly growing. Information overload and knowledge explosion therefore require intelligent and responsible handling of complex and diversely networked knowledge content. The German Education Server and the Schulweb are two highly frequented Internet portals that offer high-quality, scientifically structured information on the subject of education. Although the offers enjoy a constantly growing use, it is important for the content-related and structural further development of the range of offers to know who the users are and how the information is accepted and evaluated by different user groups. These questions were investigated using quantitative and qualitative survey methods. In the following, exemplary results of online surveys and focus group investigations on content-related, structural and graphical aspects of usability are presented. In addition, the partial results of a detailed evaluation of logfile data from one year are presented. Recommendations for user group-specific optimisation of the offers are derived from the results.
