Abstract

The results presented in the following were produced within the framework of the DFG-funded research project "An Investigation into the Media Use Behaviour of 12 to 20-Year-Olds and the Development of Media Competence in Adolescence", which is jointly led by Klaus Peter Treumann, Uwe Sander and Dorothee Meister. The research project examines the media behaviour of young people with regard to both new and old media. On the one hand, we ask about the characteristics of media competence in different dimensions and on the other hand, we concentrate on the development of an empirically founded typology of young people's media behaviour. Methodologically, the study is oriented towards the guiding principle of triangulation and combines qualitative and quantitative approaches to the research field in the form of group discussions, guideline-based individual interviews and a representative survey.
