Abstract

For some time now, it has been observed that the term "media education" is becoming increasingly established at the intersection of educational, media and cultural theoretical considerations. The compound of "media" and "education" already indicates that processes of education and subjectivation fundamentally take place in cultural environments shaped by media and in contexts of interaction with media (cf. Aufenanger 2000; Marotzki 2004). The concept of media education takes this basic assumption into account by assigning a systematic, i.e. theory-building and research-guiding value to aspects of mediality in educational science.
