Abstract
A critical overview shows how complex and heterogeneous the field of media education research is. Media pedagogical explorations are each shaped by very different concepts and objectives, by contrasting experiences and norms, by differing, historically dependent definitions of the task and subject area, which is inevitably also reflected in the understanding of the methods. At the same time, the heterogeneity of the subject area results in gaps and desiderata that should be seen as a challenge for future undertakings in the exploration of empirical reality. Most read articles by the same author(s)
