Vol. 37: Media Education as a Key Discipline in a Mediatised World. Perspectives from Theory, Empirics and Practice

Ceremonial Publication for Dorothee M. Meister.

Edited by Henrike Friedrichs-Liesenkötter, Lara Gerhardts, Anna-Maria Kamin, and Sonja Kröger

This edited volume presents theoretical, empirical and practical perspectives on media education. The fundamental thesis is that media education is a key discipline in view of the digitalisation and mediatisation of all areas of life - both today and in the future. The contributions cover a broad spectrum of topics relevant to media education: starting with theoretical discourses and media education theory development, through current fields of activity in media education and specific questions of media education professionalisation and quality assurance, to the significance of media education for university development. The extent to which media education is both a science of reflection and a science of action becomes clear. The book is primarily aimed at media education researchers and students from educational science and media-related degree programmes. The anthology is conceived as a commemorative publication on the occasion of the 60th birthday of Prof Dr Dorothee M. Meister, who heads the Department of Media Education and Empirical Media Research at the University of Paderborn.
